SCIVAX Corporation (Head Office: Kawasaki; President: Satoru Tanaka; hereinafter “SCIVAX”) and TSLC Corporation (Head Office: Taiwan; President: Trung Doan; hereinafter “TSLC”) have developed the world’s smallest PPG (PhotoPlethysmoGraphy) sensor head and will present it at “Touch Taiwan,” a display-related technology exhibition to be held in Taipei, Taiwan, from April 16 to 18, 2025. Evaluation samples of the PPG sensor head will begin shipping in April 2025.
To date, SCIVAX and TSLC have combined a partner company’s materials technology with SCIVAX’s optical lens design technology and TSLC’s packaging technology to develop the world’s smallest light-source device, “Amtelus®,” and have begun shipping evaluation samples. Leveraging the technologies cultivated through “Amtelus®,” the companies have now succeeded in developing a product that significantly miniaturizes the sensor head (signal acquisition section) of PPG sensors used as vital sensors in smartwatches and other devices, compared with conventional products.
This device achieves significant miniaturization compared with conventional devices, with a mounting area of approximately 1 mm2—about one-tenth of the conventional footprint—and a device thickness of about half.
The main features of the PPG sensor head are as follows:
● Smallest size
By minimizing the mounting area of the PPG sensor head, it can be installed even in tight spaces where installation was previously difficult.
● Expanded applications through multiple placement (array configuration)
Using multiple PPG sensor heads enables more precise sensing. In addition, using an array of sensor heads makes it possible to measure blood flow even in limited space, enabling use in, for example, beauty applications, home healthcare, and even nursing and other on-site settings.
● Low cost
Because it uses a resin package in which the light source and optical sensor are integrally molded, it offers a significant cost advantage over conventional products.

SCIVAX and TSLC are looking ahead to expanding this technology into a wide range of fields, including applications in next-generation life science areas such as vital sensors.
